Fears

The Fears Watch Company Limited, known as “Fears”, is a British luxury watch company, with heritage. Fears is one of Britain’s oldest family-run watch companies, first established in 1846 by Edwin Fear in Bristol. The business ran for 130 years until it closed in 1976. In 2016, the year the business would have celebrated its 170th anniversary, it was re-established by Edwin Fear’s great-great-great-grandson, Nicholas Bowman-Scargill. Fears today is in its historical home city of Bristol, where the watches are designed, before being hand built in Britain. In 2026 the company celebrates the 180th anniversary of its original founder and its 10th anniversary of being re-established.

The Redcliff collection takes its name from the Bristol street where the company was first founded in 1846 and is designed to be an elegant and sophisticated everyday timepiece. The Brunswick collection takes its name from Brunswick Square in Bristol where the company’s export warehouse was based from 1920 – 1942. The Arnos collection includes angular cased watches, taking its name from the Arnos Vale district of Bristol where the Fears head office is located today. The Archival collection includes proportional re-creations of pieces from the extensive Fears archive that use new-old-stock vintage movements. The Garrick collection includes watches made in collaboration with fellow British watchmaker Garrick, located in Norwich.
